Privacy policy

Cuttings has no networking of any kind. There is no server, no account, no analytics and no third-party SDK. This policy is short because there is very little to describe.

Everything stays on your device

Your plants, story entries, family lines, handover records, photographs and the name you offer when passing a plant on are stored on your phone. Nothing is uploaded, synced or transmitted. The app makes no network requests at all - not for analytics, not for illustrations, not to check for anything.

Photographs

Cuttings asks for the camera so you can photograph a plant as you add it, and for your photo library so a portrait or story entry can be a picture you already have. Photographs you choose are copied into the app's own storage and stay there. They are not uploaded anywhere, and the app reads nothing from your library beyond the pictures you pick.

Where the hardware supports it, the app works out where the subject sits in a photograph so it can be cropped sensibly. That runs entirely on the device.

Passing a plant on

When you hand a plant to someone, you choose what travels with it - origin, family line, story entries - and Cuttings builds one cuttings:// link from exactly those choices. What the preview shows is what the link carries.

The link goes wherever you send it, through the system share sheet: a message, an email, whatever you pick. It does not pass through any server of mine, and I never see it. Once you have sent it, it travels like any other message you send - so send it to people you mean to send it to.

A link you receive is treated as untrusted input: every field is bounded, an unrecognised version is refused rather than guessed at, and an import that fails changes nothing. Nothing in a link is signed, and nothing in the app claims it is - the trust model is a contact card's.

Backing up and restoring

You can export your whole archive to a file and keep it wherever you keep files. Restoring is additive and repeatable: it adds what is missing and never deletes what the file happens not to contain.

There is no copy of your data anywhere else to request or delete, because none is ever made. Deleting the app removes its data from your device.

What Cuttings doesn't do

No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no data sales, no crash reporting, no third-party SDKs, no accounts. The app's privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data. The only stored preference it declares is the sender name you are offered back when passing a plant on, read and written by this app alone.

Not an official record

A plant record in Cuttings is a keepsake. It is not a certification, a verification, an inspection or anything phytosanitary, and it carries no official standing of any kind.

Children

Cuttings is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version is posted at this address with a new date.
