Common questions
Why doesn't it use my location? Because it never asks for it. You pick one of the launch cities, and the app looks for sources around that city's centre. Nothing about where you actually are is sent anywhere.
A source is wrong, gone or closed. Please tell me which one and what you found - the register is reviewed by hand, and a report is how a correction gets made.
Is the water safe to drink? Water Passport does not say, and will not. Listings help you locate a source; they are not a statement about quality, purity or safety. Follow the signs and whatever the local authority says.
Where is my passport kept? On your phone. There is no account and no sync - check-ins, ratings, notes, private sources and your bottle all live in a file on the device. Details in the privacy policy.
Are my home taps public? No. A check-in at home is private by design: it never enters the shared register, never appears in public counts, and never carries coordinates onto a Water Card.
Can I move my passport to a new phone? Yes - Archive → Your data exports the whole thing as one readable JSON file. Restore it on the other device. Restoring replaces the passport there rather than merging the two, so export first if that one has entries worth keeping.
The city looks empty. Usually the register could not be reached. It is worth trying again on a better connection; if it stays empty, send me the city name.
