privacy policy
last updated: july 2026
bed rot is a tracker for doing nothing. this policy is short because we collect almost nothing.
your rot stays on your phone
everything you do in bed rot — sessions, moods, notes, streaks, lint, your den — is stored in a local database on your device. it is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere. there are no accounts, no sign-ins, and no servers of ours to send anything to.
you can export your data as a file from settings at any time, and erase all of it just as easily. if you delete the app, the data goes with it.
weather (optional, off by default)
if you type a city into settings, bed rot will ask open-meteo (an open weather service) whether it's raining there when you finish a session, so one rain-themed collectible card can drop. the request carries the coordinates of the city you typed and nothing else — no identifier, no account, nothing about you or your rot. the city stays on your device and you can forget it in settings at any time, which turns the feature (and the requests) fully off. if you never set a city, bed rot never makes this request.
purchases
the current version of bed rot sells nothing and connects to nothing — no purchase service is contacted at all.
if a future version offers "deep rot" (an optional one-time purchase), the payment will be processed entirely by apple. we would use a service called revenuecat to check that a purchase is valid and to restore it if you reinstall. when that's enabled, revenuecat receives a random anonymous identifier, a device identifier (idfv), your purchase status, and the technical basics any internet request carries (device model, os version, ip address) — not your name, email, or anything about how you use bed rot. apple and revenuecat keep a record of a purchase so it can be restored on reinstall; deleting the app removes your rot data but not that purchase record. revenuecat's privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
notifications
if you turn on nudges (off by default), the reminder is scheduled locally on your device. no notification data leaves your phone.
what we don't do
no analytics. no ads. no tracking. no data sales. no third-party sdks beyond the purchase validation described above, and no network requests beyond the optional weather check you'd have to turn on yourself. we don't know who you are, and we'd like to keep it that way.
children
bed rot is not directed at children under 13.
changes
if this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date.
